Once the installation of alarm system is completed you should always thoroughly check whether all Sensors/Detectors are working properly or not. Most testing can be done without actually setting off the alarm. Firstly, close all doors and windows that have sensors and make sure no one is in area where motion detector are fixed.
Door / Window magnetic Sensor – Testing
Testing these sensors are pretty simple. Open each door/window one at a time and verify that the zone changes to violated on the System display. If the System doesn’t have display,Activate the System, keep an multi meter at Siren Output terminal and check whether you receive Siren output voltage when an Door/Window is opened. If more the 1 door or windows are in the same zone be sure to test each one individually.
If the sensor always shows that the zone is violated then it might be a problem with the magnet part of the sensor not being close enough to the part with the wires You can verify that your problem is a magnet problem by using the magnet portion of another sensor and holding it right next to the sensor while to door or window is open.
Motion Sensors (PIR) – Testing
Testing of Motion Sensors requires 2 People, 1 should walk in the area where motion sensor is fixed and another should check the control panel whether the zones gets violated or not. If You have any pets at home, make them walk in the area where motion sensors is fixed and make sure the alarm don’t get tripped. If your motion detector is wired properly but is not detecting Full area properly ,adjust the angle and try again,(if placed too low or high angle it won’t cover much area)
Most of the motion sensors have a red light on the detector that gets ON when it senses motion. If your motion detector isn’t working properly and this light is also not working, then you probably have a power problem, Rectify it and try again.
