Most Commonly Used Sensors in Burglar Alarm Systems

alarm sensors atss chennai india

Alarm Sensors are the devices which detects/Senses any intrusion and sends signal to the control panel which in turn activates alarm and informs the concerned people about the intrusion. Some of most commonly used sensors for burglar alarm are listed below.

Surface Mount Switch:

These are the switches that sense the opening or closing of a door or window. The switch is mounted to the surface of a door or window, the switch has a contact, which is closed by magnetic field generated by magnet. When the door or window moves away from the magnet, the switch opens and it is sensed by the alarm control panel.

Recessed Mount Switch:

These are the switches that sense the opening or closing of a door or window. The switch and the magnet are recessed into the door or window. A small, usually circular hole is drilled into the door or window frame and in a corresponding point on the door or window. When the door or window moves away from the magnet, the switch opens and it is sensed by the alarm control panel.

Shutter Switch:

Shutter switch are used for supervising opening of garage shutter. The switch has got a contact, which is closed by magnetic field generated by magnet. If one of the elements is moved away from the other one, then, information is transmitted on to the alarm control panel.

PIR Motion Detector:

PIR can detect movement or motion in a large room. It detects Movement by sensing infrared radiation, and in addition, by using microwaves.

Panic Switch:

It is used to send an immediate, discreet alarm/call for help up on the press of a Switch during emergency situations.

Vibration Sensor:

The Sensor helps in detecting an intruder that is using force to pound through a wall, roof or other area of the structure.

Glass Break Detectors:

The detectors are designed to constantly listen for the sound of breaking glass. When it detects sound pattern of glass break it sends signal to alarm control panel.

Beam Sensor:

It consists of two separate components: a transmitter and a receiver. The light beams only travel one way (from the transmitter to the receiver).when the lights beams are obstructed by an intruder, it signals the alarm control panel.

Boundary Detector:

It detects the intruder and signals the alarm control panel whenever your property’s boundary is compromised. Boundary Detector creates a multi-layered, horizontal barrier that detects intruders.

Steps To Prevent False Alarms in Home Security Systems.

False alarms, the major issue of the home security industry, False alarms annoy your neighbors, false alarms may make you hesitant to use your home security system and that’s just what any burglar wants.Thankfully, most false alarms are caused by human made errors, which means they can be easily solved . Here are a few ways to prevent the most common causes of burglar alarm system false alarms.

Door and Windows Must be Properly Closed.

Always properly close doors and windows that have sensors on them when you move out. It can be easy to think you’ve closed them, when they’re still slightly open, meaning your Door and Window Sensors won’t be lined up correctly.Which leads to false alarm in most cases.

Placements of Motion Sensors

Placement of the sensors is the main thing in preventing false alarms, Especially the Motion Sensors, because stats says motion sensors causes most false alarms due to misplacements, You should avoid placing the Motion Sensors towards heating vents and windows. Also, if you have any pets, you should not place Motions Sensors in areas frequently used by those pets.

Alert the guests about your home security system

To minimize the chance of a false alarm let visitors know that your home security system is armed . House cleaners may need to come by when you aren’t home; so let them know how to use your system to avoid false alarm.

Contact home security provider

False alarms are mostly due to human made errors. More than 75% percent of false alarms are attributed to user mistakes. But If you think your false alarm is a result of something going wrong with your system, or if you just need help, contact your security system provider.

Why Wired Burglar Alarm Systems are More Reliable ?

youtube

If you are building a new home, a hardwired alarm system is definitely your best security advantage. The installation for these types of systems are a lot more labor intensive than wireless systems, but they also reduce the number of false alarms and tampering of the system. Because these systems require drilling holes throughout a home in order to install wiring behind its walls, we recommend these most to customers who are building a brand new property or who are engaging in the major renovation of an existing home. Hardwired systems are also more suitable for commercial use, such as to protect large warehouses and office buildings.Hence hardwired systems are considered to be the most reliable of the two different types of alarms.

Advantages of Wired Alarm Systems.

  • Parts and components are often cheaper than for wireless systems.
  • Can be more reliable in larger properties due to the distance between devices and the panel
  • No need for battery changes so servicing can be less expensive
